128' Manitowoc Fantail

With refits completed in 1975 and 1985, this lovely classic is uniquely functional and well appointed for modern day cruising. Originally built in Wisconsin, she was European owned for many years and served in WWII under the British flag. Her seakeeping abilities were impressively demonstrated on her 1983 transatlantic crossing back to the U.S., and an act of Congress restored her U.S. privileges in 1987.

Currently situated to sleep up to 8 owners/guests in four double staterooms plus up to 5 crew, she offers hot water cabin heat throughout. Twin diesel mains and 7000 gallon fuel capacity offer an approximate range of 3000 miles at 9-11 knots. With her original walnut main salon paneling, wood-burning fireplace, formal dining salon forward, and large fantail aft deck, 'NORTHWIND' is a rugged, stately and irreplaceable classic.

Construction Notes

Purchased and returned to the USA by the previous owners in 1982, NORTHWIND was further restored to the grace and comfort appropriate to her unique maritime heritage. This extensive restoration included bilges cleaned; fittings serviced; complete rewiring; new hot water heating system; new water, fuel, sewage pumps and systems; and more. Virtually a complete restoration - starting in many cases from the bare steel.

Remarks
One of the most graceful of the classic motor yachts in the world today, the NORTHWIND returned to U.S. waters after many years of European ownership. Her history has been exciting and varied, serving in WWII under the British flag; cruising the Greek Islands and the romantic Mediterranean; berthed on the Thames and under the blazing sun of Malta; she has graciously hosted Prime Ministers and Queens, world business leaders and Presidents.

The seakeeping abilities of the NORTHWIND were impressively proven on her 1983 transatlantic crossing when she encountered numerous adverse weather conditions, including a full storm off the U.S. West Coast in February of 1983.

NORTHWIND is a uniquely handsome and capable classic, with excellent charter potential, being U.S. built and having had all of her U.S. privileges restored by an Act of Congress in 1987.
